So, for Father's Day, Max and I gave Kevin this awesome Swiss Army knife. He loved it. Carried it in his pocket all the time. In the short time he owned it he got a lot of use out of it...notice I used past tense. While the Vatican City was amazing, breathtaking, they do NOT allow weapons and it was basically like airport security to get in. I talked to the guards and acted like it was my knife...he told me to put it under one of the garbage bins and then come back and get it when I was done. Of course, it was gone when we came back for it. UGH! I talked to one of the guards and he guided me through to all the garbage bins and we found nothing. When he asked why I had a knife I told him it was for protection. He offered me his gun...he genuinely felt bad but just said that it happens. But guns freak me out...and they don't have a little mini scissor that flips out the side. The guards can't allow certain items in so they tell everyone to stash their things there. Someone scored! So anyway, here is the Basilica di San Pietro. St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican.
There is a strict dress code for getting into the Basilica. You cannot have bare shoulders or anything above your knees. My plan was that my dress was long enough, just at my knees, and I would buy a scarf to put over my shoulders. I had been eyeing them up the previous day. Our first attempt to enter was denied. The guard just looked at me and said "Too short, no entry" and that was that. After a minor freak out....we had been waiting in the line for quite a while...I rememberd I got a 2 for deal from the street vendor I bought the scarf from. I took it out of my purse and wrapped it around my waist and just held it there. The guard said waved us through. Whew...although after 2 minutes of trying to hold it there and looking ridiculous, and seeing women with more leg showing than me, I removed it and shoved it back into my purse.

Cherubs!!
One of the many domes...the art was exquisite! So much detail in every bit. It was another example of simply being so much larger and better than I expected and than any picture.

It was really hard to narrow down the pictures for this post. When we were waiting in line there was something going on inside. They played it over the speakers in the plaza...There was singing, talking, and cheering so I don't know that it was mass. It was all in Latin so really know idea. But then the bells were chiming for about 15 minutes...what an experience!
Ciao!
